The evaluation of river pollution in the Maltese Islands. 2000. Fresenius Environmental Bulletin, 9, 34751.
ABSTRACT
Water plants are very sensitive to the conditions in which they live, and so their occurrence, abundance and habit can be used to interpret these conditions.
Even in the extremely dried and damaged Maltese rivers, it is possible (in the limited reaches and seasons where there is enough water) to use aquatic macrophytes as pollution indicators. A grading on an (up to) 8-point scale can be obtained.
